Dual Enrollment

The Dual Enrollment Program is the enrollment of an eligible secondary student in a postsecondary course creditable toward high school completion, a career certificate, or an associate degree.  Dual Enrollment shall serve to shorten the time necessary for students to complete the requirements associated with the conference of a degree, broaden the scope of curricular options available to students, and increase the depth of study available for a particular subject by offering co-sponsored college credit courses to eligible high school students as provided in the Dual Enrollment Agreement.  Students enrolled are exempt from the payment of registration, tuition, and laboratory fees.  

Early Admission

Early Admission is a form of Dual Enrollment permitting high school students to enroll in college or career courses on a full-time basis on a CFK campus.  Early Admission students must be enrolled in their local high school or home education program and obtain advance approval from their high school principal or home education parent to participate in the program ensuring that their college credits apply toward high school graduation.  Participation in Early Admission shall be limited to students in grades 11 and 12.  A student must enroll in a minimum of 12 college credit hours per semester or the equivalent to 12 college credit semester hours to participate in the Early Admission Program; however, a student may not be required to enroll in more than 15 college credit hours per semester or the equivalent.

Collegiate High School Program

The Collegiate High School Program is a form of Dual Enrollment permitting Monroe County School District high school students to enroll in college courses on a full-time basis at CFK’s main campus or one of its centers. Collegiate High School Program students must be enrolled in their local high school and obtain advance approval from their high school principal to participate in the program ensuring that their college credits apply toward high school graduation. Participation in the Collegiate High School Program shall be limited to students in grades 11 and 12.  A student must enroll in a minimum of 15 prescriptive college credit hours per semester or the equivalent to 15 college credit semester hours to participate in the Collegiate High School Program; however, a student may not be required to enroll in more than 15 college credit hours per semester or the equivalent.    

• An eligible secondary student who is enrolled in any grades 6 through 12 in a Monroe County (FL) public or private school or enrolled in a Home Education Program in conjunction with the Monroe County School District
• An un-weighted cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher (a cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for vocational PSAV courses)
• Recommendation from the student's current guidance counselor, assistant principal, or the principal
• Demonstrated readiness for college coursework through scores on the Post-Secondary Educational Readiness Test (PERT), American College Test (ACT), or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)
• Course prerequisites are listed in the current CFK Catalog

• No Physical Education Courses (including those courses that start with the prefix PEN or PEQ)
• No Developmental Courses
• No Courses with a lab fee of $225 or greater
• No Courses that are less than three (3) credits that are not designated as lab courses 

Research & Decide:

• Parents and students should evaluate and research the student’s education and career goals. The Florida Shines website is an excellent educational planning resource.
• Browse through the current CFK Catalog to identify the degree programs and courses that interest the student, then:
• Meet with the high school guidance counselor to discuss the student’s goals and the CFK accelerated education options that can help the student reach them.

Placement Testing:

• Arrange for free college placement testing, for example PERT, if the student plans to enroll in college credit classes and has not taken an appropriate college placement test.
  • Students must make an appointment to take the PERT test.
  • To make an appointment, students must complete the PERT Authorization Form with their guidance counselor and return the form to CFK with a completed Dual Enrollment Application for Admission (forms linked below).
  • Alternatively, the guidance counselor can call the Director of Community Engagement & Testing Megan Perez at (305) 809-3238 to schedule an appointment. The student must arrive 30 minutes prior to testing with all completed forms.
  • Students are responsible for returning test scores to their guidance counselor.

Apply to CFK:

• Create a CFK Future Student Account and complete the Dual Enrollment Application online (if this is the first time you are registering).
• Meet with a CFK academic advisor to review and approve suggested classes.
• Submit completed Authorization forms to CFK Admissions/Enrollment Services Office for processing.

• Parents and students should familiarize themselves with the College's add/drop policies.
  • Students may drop from a course only during the add/drop period. This effectively removes the course from the student’s transcript.
  • After the add/drop period has passed students may withdraw from the course up to the 70% point of the course. Students must follow the approved CFK withdraw procedure. Courses from which students wish to withdraw will appear on the student’s transcript with a grade of a “W”.
